Bulletin December 14, 2014

Thank You! Thank you to our parishioners who decorated the Church and the Social Hall in preparation for Christmas and to everyone who helped in any way with our annual St. Nicholas celebration last Sunday – the set-up and the clean-up volunteers and all who contributed to such a wide selection of beautiful and delicious foods and desserts.

The Sunday of the Holy Forefathers is the Sunday that falls between December 11th–17th the second Sunday before the Nativity. We honor the memory of all the great Fathers and Mothers, the Prophets, and all people of faith of the Old Testament beginning with Adam to Abraham and the Righteous Sarah, Isaac and Jacob, including the Holy Prophets particularly Elias and Daniel, the Three Holy Youths, and concluding with Holy Prophet Zechariah, Joachim and Anna, the Holy Prophet and Forerunner John the Baptist and the Mother of God. They lived before the Law and under the Law, especially the Patriarch Abraham, to whom God said, “In thy seed shall all of the nations of the earth be blessed” (Genesis 12:3, 22:18).

Retired Religious: The annual collection for Retired Religious is currently taking place. Our Sisters of St. Basil the Great in Uniontown, PA receive a grant each year from this national drive to assist with health care costs for elderly members of the community. Your contributions assist our own Religious in the Metropolia of Pittsburgh.

Cookies: Traditionally following the Christmas Vigil Divine Liturgy and the morning Divine Liturgy there is a Christmas Cookie Social. We depend on you to help in supplying some of your favorite cookies for this event.
