Bulletin May 21, 2017

Altar Candles: The altar candles are burning during the month of May for +George and +Ann Hametz.

Let Us Remember in Prayer: Those who are ill or convalescing. May our Lord Jesus Christ, the Physician and Healer of souls and bodies, grant them peace and good health for many blessed years.
Please let Fr. Lewis know if anyone should be added or taken away from this prayer list.

The Mystery of Repentance: Every Catholic in good standing is required to avail themselves of the Sacrament of Repentance at least once each year. Please do not withhold God’s forgiveness by avoiding this Sacrament of Healing. “In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judea, “Repent, for the kingdom of God is at hand” (Matt. 3:1-2).

Byzantine Catholic Inquiry Classes: These will begin on Sunday, May 21 after the Divine Liturgy. We will have a simple lunch and then begin class. We will be using several texts, and a loose outline to offer the Byzantine Catholic approach to the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church. Those who are interested, please let Fr. Lewis know.

Pentecost: Pentecost is the birthday of the Church. After Jesus Christ ascended into heaven at Ascension, He promised the gift of the Holy Spirit, which came upon His Disciples at Pentecost. During the Paschal season we have not prayed the prayer, “Heavenly King Comforter,” because we were awaiting the gift of the Holy Spirit. It would be nice to begin a new tradition to have a small continental breakfast after the Divine Liturgy to nourish our bodies and then return for Vespers of the Day of the Holy Spirit with Kneeling Prayers to nourish our spirit. Please consider bringing a small dish.

Questionnaire for the 2018 Synod of Bishops on Young People, the Faith and Vocational Discernment: Following is the Questionnaire which the Vatican has issued in preparation for the Synod. You can complete it right on this website by following the link www.eparchyofpassaic.com. Please answer the questions to the best of your ability. Kindly go all the way to the end and remember to mark DONE, so your responses can be included in the document which I will present to the Synod.
Thank you for your cooperation and time,
Archbishop William Skurla
Synod Father

Mary and the Month of May: During the month of May we will be celebrating the Akathist to the Theotokos every week.

Eparchial Pilgrimages: Fr. Conan and Fr. Lewis are interested in grouping together so the faithful may attend this years pilgrimages. We would like to get a bus or van booked so that as many as possible can attend these important spiritual events. Please consider attending these events and place them on your calendar. Information will be coming soon. For those who may have children attend the Altar Server Camp, please know that they will be serving a Hierarchical Divine Liturgy with Bishop Kurt at the Pilgrimage in Sybertsville, Pennsylvania.

Mens Retreat in Arbutus: Fr. Lewis will be assisted by Seminarian Timothy for a Men’s Retreat on Saturday, June 17th. Seminarian Timothy will be assigned to Patronage of the Mother of God in Arbutus for his first summer assignment. Seminarian Timothy will also join us for our schedule of Divine Services on Sunday, June 11. The retreat will cover regaining silence in our busy lives so that we can hear the voice of God. All men are invited.

Financial Statements: Official financial statement for our parish are very close to completion. Some have been asking for this so that we can correctly know the state of our parish. This has taken so long to produce because of the repairs and renovations that needed to be done in both the church and the rectory. But now that the office is in general working order, these statements are almost ready. Thank you for your patience.
