Bulletin July 23, 2017

Let Us Remember in Prayer: Those who are ill or convalescing. May our Lord Jesus Christ, the Physician and Healer of souls and bodies, grant them peace and good health for many blessed years.
Please let Fr. Lewis know if anyone should be added or taken away from this prayer list.

Byzantine Catholic Inquiry Classes: Remaining Schedule is as follows:
7/23: p.213-254 7/30: p. 255-284 8/6: p. 286-308

Parish Maintenance and Financial Status: The new concrete has been poured yesterday as part of the house’s water management correction. The concrete had to be removed in October of 2016 to divert the large flow of water that was entering the rectory basement. The walls of the steps to the rectory basement will also be repaired and built-up as part of the backyard water management flow in addition to the grading of the soil. Also, the area where the floor joist meet the foundation below the dinning room/kitchen area that was rotted because of water flowing into the basement will be repaired as well. After these repairs, there only remains normal house maintenance, and the rectory will be completed.
Some may have noticed that our commercial freezer is in need of repair. The consensus is that we should get a new or slightly used unit instead of replacing the condenser—a costly repair. We do need donors to help offset this costly replacement which aids our ability to successfully run our Slavic Food Festival.
Also, the parts have been ordered and will be installed on Monday to repair our gas range ovens. Each oven is essentially getting all new guts to fix the temperature regulation issues, gas flow issues, and pilot light issues.

Blessing of Automobiles: It is the small t tradition of the Byzantine Church to bless any type of transportation on the Feast of the Great Prophet Elijah. We will do this following the Divine Liturgy on Sunday, July 23. This is because Elijah ascended into heaven on a chariot of fire in 2 Kings 9-12, “When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, Ask what I shall do for you, before I am taken from you.’ And Elisha said, ‘I beg you, let me inherit a double share of your spirit.’ And he said, ‘You have asked a hard thing; yet, if you see me as I am being taken from you, it shall be so for you; but if you do not see me, it shall not be so.’ And as they still went on and talked, behold, a chariot of fire and horses of fire separated the two of them. And Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven. And Elisha saw it and he cried, ‘My father, my father! the chariots of Israel and its horsemen!’ And he saw him no more.”

Festival Update, July 23, 2017

Dates have now been set for all food preparation for our food festival, to be held November 4. Please plan to spend some of your precious time helping our parish make the foods that will help us meet church expenses. No prior experience is needed and all are welcome, both men and women. Times are from 9 a.m. to about 4 p.m. Come when you can. We especially need help from about 10 a.m. to about 2 p.m.
Kolácsi: Saturdays August 5, August 19 and September 9
Holupki: Friday, October 20 and Saturday, October 21
Haluški: Tuesday, October 31 and Wednesday, November 1
This year all parishioners will be required to pre-order all of their kolácsi as well as the number ordered for relatives, friends, neighbors, etc. We believe this procedure is the best way to have enough of each type of kolácsi to accommodate both parishioners and our customers. We want to stop disappointing our loyal following by being sold out of particular flavors shortly after we open. Parishioners who do not pre-order should be prepared to wait until after 2 p.m. to select from the remaining kolácsi.
Please note that this year the church is purchasing supplies in bulk to get better prices and for convenience, but, everyone is humbly encouraged to donate what funds they can to offset the cost of ingredients, which will increase the festival profit. Thank you in advance for your generosity.
