Saint Gregory’s Slavic Food Festival:

Food Festival Update, October 15

Three weeks to go before our Great Slavic Food Festival November 4.
Today we need to have two things done: In the hall, we need one stack of tables unstacked and opened up. From the shed, we need things brought to the hall. On the second floor are the bakery display shelves and hot food supports.
Sign-up sheets are in the hall, ready for you to select those times you can work on festival day. Each box is for one hour of time and should have one name in it. Try to give us one to three hours, not necessarily back-to-back. You can also work at more than one station.
Raffle tickets and flyers are in the hall with your names on the envelopes. Each contains 24 tickets for $20. Take extras tickets to sell. Put the ticket stubs in the drum and give the money to Joanne or Sue. Also, take flyers to post in places people frequent.
Our door prize table is in need of new or things you haven’t used—and probably never will. Don’t forget those from Aunt Whoosie that some lucky winner will consider a treasure.
On Wednesday, October 18, from about 9 until about noon we will be cleaning those items brought down from the attic on Sunday and moving kolácsi from one freezer to another to make room for freezing the holupki we will cook on Saturday.
On Friday, October 20, we need some taller and strong people (usually men volunteer) to lift very large pots of hot water in which cabbage is parboiled. We will soften, trim and separate leaves by size. On Saturday, October 21, we will roll and cook holupki, cool and freeze them. Join us each day for whatever time you can from 9 a.m. to about 4 p.m.
During the week of October 22 we will lightly clean inside the church (dust pews, remove seat stains, clean icon screen doors, get rid of cobwebs in church and in foyers, etc.) A good vacuuming will be done closer to Nov. 4.
Holupki: Friday, October 20 and Saturday, October 21
Haluški: Tuesday, October 31 and Wednesday, November 1

Eastern Christian Formation: ECF classes will resume this year. Please let Fr. Lewis know if your children will be participating and what grades they are in. Because of parish dynamics it seems we will have the program once or twice a month to help younger children understand better those aspects of the faith particular to the Byzantine Tradition, and for the adolescence to learn how to engage our current cultural landscape.
We will begin our Eastern Christian Formation (ECF) program on Sunday, October 29.

Traveling Vocation Icon Program: Our Metropolia is embarking on a traveling Vocation Icon Program for all of the faithful of our Churches to pray for and encourage vocations to the religious life: presbyterate, diaconate, consecrated life of men and women monastics. Prayer is one of the most important aspects of our faith in God and when we pray fervently with full trust in God, our prayers will be answered. Please consider bringing the Vocation Icon into your home for a week and praying for vocations to strengthen our church and to lead us all to heaven.
